Frequently asked questions
Below you can find answers to common questions about Vetsure Insurance policies.
Your pet needs to be at least 8 weeks old and less than 10 years old at the start of cover.
Your cover will start on the date you specify, but there will be a 14-day 'waiting period' before illness cover begins. The 'waiting period' means a period of 14 days from your cover start date during which if an illness occurs or shows clinical signs it will be excluded from cover unless otherwise agreed and noted on your Schedule.
The 'waiting period' does not apply to the Accident Only policy as illnesses are not covered.
Your pet must be more than 8 weeks old and less than 10 years old to arrange a Vetsure Pet Insurance policy for the first time. Once your pet is insured cover will continue for the remainder of your pet's life as long as the premiums are paid.
You can pay for your policy in 12 interest free monthly instalments.
The claim excess is the amount you pay towards each new, unrelated claim. You will be liable to pay a £69 excess if your pet is treated at a Vetsure affiliated clinic (or any other clinic at your own vet's direction) and £89 if your pet is treated at any other veterinary practice of your own choosing. Please note that for pets over the age of 8 years, a 15% co-payment will apply to each claim payment for veterinary fees, special diets and complementary medicine, which is in addition to the deduction of the applicable standard excess.
You can track your claim on the website using the 'Make or Track a Claim' option.
The process will normally take five working days from the day we have received the completed claim form.
We have an arrangement whereby the insurer usually pays your Vetsure vet directly. For any eligible treatments, you normally need only pay us the applicable excess.
If your pet receives treatment at a non-Vetsure affiliated clinic you may have to pay the full cost at time of treatment and claim this back from the insurer yourself.
If you move house to anywhere within the UK (inc Northern Ireland) you can still keep your Vetsure pet insurance policy. You can use our Find a Vetsure Vet tool to check whether there is a Vetsure-affiliated clinic near to your new home. If not, you can take your pet to any vet of your choosing - the only difference is that you will pay a slightly higher excess of £89 if you attend a non-Vetsure affiliated clinic.
