Why insurance is so important for older dogs…
It can be a very distressing time for owners to see their once vibrant and energetic dog become slower and less enthusiastic as they enter old age. Like humans, the risk of illness increases as your old friend reaches their senior years. You have developed such a special relationship with your friend, no one knows him like you do. He has always been there for you, never judges you and has given you unconditional love and friendship for many wonderful years. Let’s hope he will continue to do so for many years….Providing good quality healthcare for your old friend can be costly though and trips to the vet can become more frequent. At such times of anxiety, you don’t want to be worrying about costs. That’s when good quality dog insurance becomes invaluable.
Many insurers will not offer to allow you to take out cover for dogs after they turn 8 years of age but with Vetsure, you can take out a policy for the first time for any dog up to their 10th birthday. After this point we will then continue to offer cover every year for the remainder of your pet’s life. Please note that, once your dog reaches 8 years of age, you will have to pay what insurers call a co-payment every time that you make a claim. With Vetsure, we ask for owners of dogs aged 8 years or above to pay 15% of any claim paid after the excess has been deducted.
We know that your choice of pet insurer can seem bewildering. Choosing a cheap dog insurance product might seem sensible but, unless you understand exactly what you are getting, it could prove to be an expensive – and distressing – mistake.
Vetsure insurance policies have been designed by vets to offer reassuring cover. The policies offer you the choice of two generous benefit limits for vet treatments. These limits apply to each unrelated condition and recharge fully each time you renew – so you can make claims against an unlimited number of different eligible conditions.
The Vetsure policy range offers you the flexibility to tailor your cover to suit your needs and budget! First, you choose between three levels of ‘core cover’: Premier Plus, Premier and Accident Only as detailed below. Then, you can choose to add up to three types of ‘Optional cover’: Preventative Care Vouchers (where available), Public Liability (for dogs only) and ‘Additional Benefits Cover (ABC package)’.

The Premier Plus ‘core cover’ includes up to £5,000 per condition per year for Veterinary Fees. This policy also offers cover for Complementary Medicine, Special Diet, Death of Pet, Transportation Costs, Loss by Theft or Straying and Advertising and Reward as standard.
The Premier Plus ‘core cover’ includes up to £2,000 per condition per year for Veterinary Fees. This policy also offers cover for Complementary Medicine, Special Diet, Death of Pet, Transportation Costs, Loss by Theft or Straying and Advertising and Reward as standard.
This policy provides your pet with cover for accidental injury only. For example, treatment following a road traffic accident, foreign body ingestion, bone fractures, lacerations, burns and such like. This policy does not cover illnesses or conditions that have an underlying medical cause such as cruciate ligament rupture and patella luxation. If you are concerned about the possible future costs relating to such conditions, or any illness your pet might develop, the Premier or Premier Plus policies may suit you better as they provide cover for illness.
A package of cover with the following benefits included:
Up to £2million per incident. Provides cover for damages and costs arising from ownership of your dog.
The Preventative Care Vouchers offer savings on your pet’s preventative healthcare needs worth at least £160 a year including:
Please note – this optional cover is currently only available, and vouchers are only redeemable, at selected accredited clinics.
