Aegean cats are named after the sea surrounding the Greek Islands where they originate and have been known to fish in these waters for a tasty treat! Although they are not currently recognised by Breed Associations, the Aegean is considered one of the oldest domesticated cat breeds in the world.
Aegeans do not adjust quickly to new environments, but they are very affectionate, loving, and will go out of their way to meet new people. They will happily entertain themselves, but love being around dogs and children for the playful interaction.
The Aegean semi-longhaired coat comes in black, red, cream, tricolour, with or without tabby striping. Aegeans are adept at maintaining their own coats, so little grooming is required from their owners. They do shed a moderate amount of hair, but this is easy to clean up.
Life expectancy: 8-12 years
Originating country: Greece
Temperament: intelligent, loving, sociable
Interesting fact: Only native breed to Greece and considered a national treasure
